1.The Breadwinner is now in production
Aircraft Pictures (Canada), Melusine Productions (Luxembourg) and Cartoon Saloon (Ireland) in association with Angelina Jolie Pitt’s Jolie Pas Productions have begun key animation on the animated feature film The Breadwinner. Based on the internationally acclaimed young adult novel of the same name by Canadian author Deborah Ellis, the film is set for completion in Summer 2017. The film is directed by Nora Twomey (co-director, Academy Award®-nominated The Secret of Kells). The Breadwinner is the story of Parvana, a young girl living under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, who must disguise herself as a boy to become the breadwinner of the family when her father is unfairly imprisoned. The Breadwinner also celebrates the culture, history and beauty of Afghanistan with a cast that includes many performers of Afghan descent.
2. Viz Media to develop original animated series GAKKIMALS
VIZ Media has acquired the production and licensing rights to develop an original animated series based on the Japanese children’s property. The series will be produced under license from ShoPro, a subsidiary of Japanese large publishing houses, Shogakukan Inc., Shueisha Inc. and Hakusensha Inc. GAKKIMALS is based on an original concept created by Japanese production duo, PecanNuts. GAKKIMALS is a story of characters, who are mashups of musical instruments and animals. They bring happiness and harmony to their fun-filled world.
3. eigoMANGA’s feature film PADAK debuts on Steam
eigoMANGA (San Francisco based digital media publisher) announced that Steam, an interactive content delivery platform, will start streaming the animated feature film PADAK from 6th June, 2016. PADAK is a Korean film written and directed by Lee Dae Hee. The film is about the lives of fish in captivity in a seafood restaurant. Some fish accept their fate while others fight to change it. PADAK has won various awards from international film festivals such as the Vladivostok International Film Festival, Jeonju International Film Festival, and Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival.

4. Danger Mouse will return for a second season
FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK) and CBBC announced that Danger Mouse is returning for a second series. The series is part of FMK’s unique five-years co-production partnership with BBC Children and has now been sold into 100+ territories. The first series has rolled out on several major broadcasters around the world and made its debut on Netflix in North America, Latin America, Benelux the Nordics, Poland, Italy and Japan last month.
