2. CalArts Almuni participates in creation of animated sequence for Documentary He Named Me Malala

Davis Guggenheim, a documentary filmmaker known for An Inconvenient Truth, worked with a team of students and alumni of California Institute of the Arts’ (CalArts) Experimental Animation Program to create animated scenes evoking the history and landscape of Malala’s Swat Valley homeland, and to depict her memories and those of her parents.

3. DC launches first animated short Welcome to Super Hero High

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, in partnership with Mattel, announced the new DCSuperHeroGirls.com website. A global rollout of the digitally immersive world will follow. The new website will be regularly updated with new animated digital content and previews of upcoming products.

5. Pixar development team tests iPad Pro and Apple Pencil

AppleInsider, 9to5Mac, Cartoon Brew and some other sources reported that Apple recently brought the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil to Pixar for the test. Comments from Pixar artists suggest that the usability is similar to using Cintiq and has a good palm rejection.

6. CG Spectrum offers $500,000 in full scholarships to build the Australian VFX industry

CG Spectrum, the online school for visual effects, animation, modeling and concept design, announced to offer full scholarships to 20 passionate Australian artists to learn from the industry’s best artists from studios such as Iloura, Weta, Dreamworks, Ubisoft, EA, Disney and many more. The application is open until 6 November 2015.

7. Bardel Animation opens Kelowna studio in British Colombia, Canada

Bardel announced the opening of its new studio in Kelowna, British Colombia in Canada. The studio currently employees over 650 artists and professionals throughout three studio locations with two studios located in Vancouver and one studio located in Kelowna. Bardel provides animation services for diverse partners including DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Disney, Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network-Adult Swim.
