1. Animation Council of the Philippines launches 10th Animahenasyon

The Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and SM Retail Inc., is going to hold “Animahenasyon 2016: Inspiration. Creation. Animation” from 22nd to 24th November at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The animation festival consists of different activities including competitions, screenings, plenary sessions and workshops. Addition to the festival, to celebrate the 100 years of Spanish Animation, the Embassy of Spain and the Instituto Cervantes de Manila partnered with ACPI will hold a program “Bridging the Gap” (BTG).  It is the first BTG to be held in Asia outside Spain.

2. Baobab Studios announces new VR episode Asteroids!

Baobab Studios released a first look of new episode Asteroids!, which follows the first animated short film episode Invasion! in virtual reality (VR). Asteroids! is inspired by Mac and Cheez, the two aliens appeared in Invasion!. Asteroids! aims to tell more of the alien’s endearing story in the vast intergalactic adventures that await them and their robotic friends.

The first look of Asteroids! is available on 6th October, downloadable on the Oculus store via the Invasion! app. The full VR animated story is scheduled to be released in 2017.

3. Cyber Group announces Iqbal as the first animated feature to distribute

At the MIPCOM Junior 2016, Cyber Group Studio announced that it is going to distribute the first animated feature Iqbal, Tale of a Fearless Child. Iqbal is developed with the sponsorship of The UNICEF. It is a French-Italian co-production and based on the book written by Francesco D’amano that was published in more than 30 territories around the world. Being inspired by the true story of the Pakistani hero boy Iqbal Masih, it talks about children’s right.

4. Aardman announces the release dates for Early Man




Aardman and STUDIOCANAL announced the release dates for Aardman’s new feature film Early Man directed by Nick Park. STUDIOCANAL is co-financing and will distribute in its own territories, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, selling worldwide. The BFI (British Film Institute) is also a partner on the film. Early Man tells the story of how one plucky caveman sets off to unite his tribe against a mighty enemy and saves the day when dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures roamed the earth.

UK: January 26th 2018
France: January 31st 2018
Germany: March 29th 2018
Australia/NZ: March 29th 2018

5. Tasty Tales of the Food Truckers™ co-produced by FremantleMedia Kids & Family and Shellhut Entertainment

UK based FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK) announced that food-themed, animated series Tasty Tales of the Food Truckers™ is the first project from its co-production deal with Thai production company Shellhut Entertainment. Food Truckers (52 x 11’) is about eating, travel, creativity, friendship, cooking, fun and food. FMK introduced the show at MIPJunior and MIPCOM .

6. Funimation Films sets to bring One Piece Film: Gold to theatres in North America

Funimation Films has acquired Japanese animated film One Piece Film: Gold from Toei Animation. Funimation Films will distribute the movie in both the U.S. and Canada as a limited theatrical event from 10th to 17th January 2017.
