1. Zootopia passes $1B Global Box Office
Deadline and several other sources reported that Disney’s Zootopia passed $1 billion in global box office. Zootopia is the fourth animated film ever to cross the $1 billion mark. According to Deadline, Japan continues to be the major driver with another $3.2M this session for its 17th weekend of overseas release.
2. French animation studio TeamTo opens Chinese office
Variety reported that Paris and L.A.-based CGI studio TeamTo is opening an office in Beijing, headed up by Shu Ye, a former sound editor and U.S. and European film distribution executive in China. This decision is followed by continuous TeamTO’s growth as a producer of Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ TV series Rabbids Invasion and an animation supplier of Disney’s Sofia The First.
3. Cygames acquires background art studio Kusanagi
Cygames, a big mobile game developer in Japan, announced that it has acquired a background art studio Kusanagi. Kusanagi will officially become a subsidiary to Cygames. Kusanagi is known for its background art works of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Cowboy Bebop, and Final Fantasy series VII, VIII, IX, X and XII.

4. Animation category sponsored by SLR Productions at Sanctuary Cove International Film Festival
The Sanctuary Cove International Film Festival is going to be held on the Gold Coast from Saturday 12th November until Wednesday 16th November and entries are now open for all categories. This year’s animation category is sponsored by SLR Productions’ CEO, Suzanne Ryan. $1,000 total prize money is on offer with $600 awarded to the category winner and $400 to the runner-up winner. SLR Productions is recognized around the world for brands such as Guess How Much I Love You, The Skinner Boys – Guardians of the Lost Secrets, Lexie and Lottie and I Got a Rocket™.
